SEO efforts might take months to bring results, even though you can usually see some improvement on the Search Engine Research Pages (SERP) once a web page has been crawled and indexed by a search engine.

Let’s pick an example. What do you do when you are in need of a good quality yoga mat? You search it online. Similarly, when someone has a question and wants to look up the answer online, they use search engines.

Search engine algorithms are computer programs that sift through data to provide users with the exact and/or specific results they want. To identify websites and choose which ones to rank for a particular keyword, search engines use algorithms. In order to find information, search engines go through three stages:

  1. Crawling: In this step, the search engine sends out web crawlers to go through every content that is on the internet to determine the relevancy of the searched keywords with the content.

  2. Indexing: In this step, the search engine decides whether it’s going to use the found content or not.

  3. Ranking: Finally, in this step, the search engine ranks the websites and webpages.

There are in total 12 types of SEO. For example: White-hat, black-hat, gray-hat, on-page, off-page, technical, international, local, ecommerce, content, mobile and negative. Sounds overwhelming? Let’s simplify it.

What is on-page SEO? The short answer is anything that goes on your website - be it some product image, webcopy or article. Title tags, internal links, HTML code, URLs, photos, and numerous other on-page components are all optimized for web pages through the process of on-page SEO in order to boost ranks and user experience. On-page SEO (Search Engine Optimization) elements include:

  • Creating entertaining, pertinent, and educational content for your website visitors while also making it search engine friendly

  • Using HTML tags to highlight key phrases or paragraphs in your writing, and to check for broken links or duplicate information.

  • Minimizing the size of photo files.

  • Organizing the URLs of many pages to make them concise and obvious.

2. Off-page SEO

Off-page SEO, often known as "off-site SEO," describes activities carried out to influence your ranks in SERPs but not on your own website. These are a few of the fundamental SEO criteria that support on-page SEO and help a site rank.

Improving search engine and user impression of a site's popularity, relevance, trustworthiness, and authority is a part of optimizing for off-site ranking criteria. This is done by having other trustworthy websites (pages, sites, persons, etc.) advertise or link to your website, thus "vouching" for the value of your content.

The best and the most common way to make your website or web content visible to online audiences is to actually publish content from your website.

As a wellness professional, the best way to do that would be publishing blogs and articles that are related to your niche.

What are the most asked questions by your clients?

Write articles by answering these questions, so that the next time people search for these topics, they will find you.

2. Keyword research


One of the prerequisites for writing blogs or putting up any written content on your website is doing sufficient keyword research. Keywords are basically the words and phrases that people are going to use when they search you.

Researching keywords is highly important, so that you know which words and phrases in your text-content are going to work for SEO. There are plenty of free tools available online that you can use to research keywords, for example: Ubersuggest, Semrush, Moz, Ahrefs, and Wordtools.

The process of this technique is as follows:

  1. Locate top-performing content in SERPs for keywords that are relevant to your brand.

  2. Take a “snapshot” of the publishers linking to those pieces of content you are targeting.

  3. Develop a better piece of content that capitalizes on the current content’s weaknesses.

  4. Reach out to each of the publishers currently linking to those targeted pieces of content and recommend your awesome new article

It’s also worth mentioning Guest Posting as an effective technique. It is an excellent strategy to earn high-quality natural backlinks for your website. The more quality backlinks you have in your profile, the better your chances of reaching the top of search rankings.

Guest posting for backlinks works by:

  1. Reaching out to relevant blogs that accept guest posts

  2. Getting their agreement to write a unique post for them

  3. Creating the content, including any links

  4. Awaiting publication.

Finally, a quick shout out to Broken Link Building. Broken link building is a tactic that takes advantage of broken pages on the web. It involves finding a dead page and asking linkers to swap the links to a working page on your site. The idea is that they’ll do this as they don’t want to send visitors to a dead resource.

In any case, to succeed building backlinks, prepare to spend a lot of time on research, content development and outreach.

5. Image quality and quantity

You don’t want your customers to wait while your website images take all the time in the world to load. It is crucial to use maximum quality images and videos while making sure that they don’t put too much load on your website.

Additionally, you can use your images to your SEO advantage when including ALT attributes or otherwise known ALT text.

Alt attributes are text that describes an image. ALT attributes help search engines decipher the subject of an image so they know when to include an image in relevant search results. This makes images with alt attributes more likely to be found.

As an added bonus, you also become more inclusive because visually impaired people have greater access to all of your content. Lovely, indeed.

6. Building internal links

Internal links are the hyperlinks that connect your web pages, well you guessed, internally. You can include a number of links within your blog content for example, providing opportunities for the reader through browsing your content library.

Also, every time you create and publish a blog post, it's one more indexed page on your website, which means one more opportunity for you to show up on the search engine results page (SERP) and drive traffic to your website in organic search.

7. Building external links

On the other hand, external links connect your web pages to another website. Building these links is important to create moving traffic.

Couple of things to mention. First of all, the number and age of domain links within your website affect your website’s SEO ranking. The higher the domains that link to your website, the more authoritative your website will be in Google algorithm’s eyes.

Obviously, this also works the other way, the lower the domains rank, the lesser the visibility is. Since this principle applies to every website, you need to seek out well-established sites with high-ranking domains to build credible backlinks.

8. Optimum content length

You better take notice of how much of your actual content is being read by your audience. If your visitors leave the articles and blogs midway, this is going to increase the bounce rate of your website. Track your website analytics to learn the optimum article length for your leads, tweak your headline and include credible internal and external links, of course.

Bounce rate is the percentage of people who land on a page and leave without performing a specific action. High bounce rates are often symptoms of problems like user experience issues, irrelevant content, or poor targeting.

Setting up an analytics tool like Google Analytics will help you measure your website traffic and monitor the correct bounce rate. You can then reduce the bounce rate by developing a better user experience, including a clear call to action, check the readability of your content, removing dead pages, and do some A/B testing, to name a few tactics.
